Treatment

acupuncturemanWe use very thin needles to deliver gentle yet effective treatments. All needles are sterile and used only once before they are destroyed. Most people find acupuncture treatment to be painless and relaxing.

Treatments session generally take 50 minutes. We schedule 90 minute appointments for initial visits, when we take a full health history and patient evaluation followed by a treatment. At your first visit Rebecca will recommended a course of treatment which may be 4 to 12 sessions depending on your condition. Rebecca works together with patients to develop an individual plan for each person.

In addition to acupuncture, Rebecca incorporates cupping, gua sha, tuina, moxibustion, dietary advice and herbal supplements in individual treatments. To increase the efficacy of treatment, electro-acupuncture is also often used. Rebecca was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and practices Chinese style acupuncture.

Cupping: a technique used to relieve symptoms by applying cups made of glass, bamboo, or other materials to the skin with a vacuum created by heat or other devices.

Electro-Acupuncture: the running of very low electrical current through one or more needles to help reduce tension, alleviate pain and stimulate internal repair.

Gua Sha: the rubbing of an area of the body with a blunt-edged instrument. Used to release blocked Qi, muscle tension or inflammation.

Moxabustion (Moxa): the burning of herbs, particularly mugwort, on a needle, on the body or near the body at an acupoint or over a larger area to warm it, speed healing, invigorate Qi, and relieve symptoms. Moxa comes in several forms such as a stick, ball, cone, or rice grain.

Tuina: an ancient technique of Chinese medical massage, used for a variety of common illnesses and discomforts
Dietary Advice: food and herbal advice based on traditional Chinese medical theory.

Herbal medicine: We offer high-quality herbal supplements based on traditional Chinese formulas. We draw on the sophisticated and extensive herbal tradition of Traditional Chinese Medicine to choose a formula that targets each individual’s needs.
